Monthly payments, local rebates, and what changed with federal tax credits, so you can plan for a new system without the sticker shock.
A new air conditioner is one of the biggest purchases most homeowners make for their house, and it often comes at the worst time, when the old system quits in the middle of summer. The good news: most people don't pay for it all at once. Here are the main ways San Antonio homeowners cover the cost.
We offer financing through Affirm, so you can spread the cost of a new system over monthly payments instead of paying everything upfront. You'll see your terms before you commit. Details are on our financing page, and we're happy to walk you through it during your free in-home estimate.
If you're a CPS Energy customer, you may qualify for a rebate when you install a qualifying high-efficiency air conditioner or heat pump. Rebates are based on the size of the system (per ton) and its efficiency, and the paperwork has to be submitted within a set time after installation. Amounts and requirements change, so we'll check what's currently available when we quote your system. Read more in our CPS Energy HVAC rebates guide.
For several years, homeowners could claim a federal tax credit (often called the 25C credit) for qualifying high-efficiency heat pumps and air conditioners. That credit ended on December 31, 2025, so systems installed in 2026 don't qualify. If you installed a qualifying system in 2025, check with your tax preparer about claiming it on your 2025 return. Be careful with any ad that still promises a federal HVAC tax credit for a new install this year.
The highest-efficiency system isn't always the best value. A mid-range system can be the smartest choice for many homes, while a higher-efficiency unit pays back faster if you plan to stay in your home for many years. We'll show you the options side by side. For background, see SEER ratings explained.
If your system might be repairable, start with our $129 diagnostic (waived if you go ahead with the repair). Sometimes a repair buys you a few more good years. Our guide to repair vs. replacement explains how to decide.
